Mission
The NVI is an agency responsible to the Ministry of
Health, Welfare and Sport. It guarantees the supply of vaccines
necessary to protect the Dutch population against infectious
diseases. The vaccines are used both in the regular National
Immunisation Programmes and for emergency vaccination
campaigns.
Tasks
- Supply high-quality vaccines, produced within the NVI's own facilities or purchased, to meet the national vaccination needs in a timely fashion and at affordable prices;
- Research and develop new vaccines;
- Maintain a knowledge base on vaccines and vaccination for the Dutch Ministry of Health.
Related Activities
- The NVI cooperates with and assists vaccine producers in developing countries;
- The NVI provides the RIVM with test animals for research, while undertaking activities and research to refine, reduce and replace animal testing at government institutes;
- The NVI exploits extra production capacity and knowledge on infrastructures at market prices.
NVI Bonuses
Strengthening the links in the vaccine value chain
has allowed NVI to become a more responsive, customer-oriented
organisation, where quality continues to receive the highest
priority.
The merger has furnished the NVI with the capacity and knowledge to
cope with calamities and other special situations that require the
swift provision of vaccines. The merger has also made it possible
for the NVI to play an active role in the international areas of
research, training and transfer of technology to developing
countries.
